KM SW Switch

Several KM (Keyboard/Mouse) software switching solutions have been investigated and tested. We recommend the Multiplicity product from Stardock. Please find below instruction on how to install and configure this 3rd party software for use with TERRA 4D in command and control centers.

Multiplicity

Download

Download the software from https://www.stardock.com/products/multiplicity/

The software comes with a 30 day trial license. However, Internet access is required to activate the trial license. Once you have purchased the product, you will receive a code that you can enter without Internet access.

You need a license for each primary computer (the PC that controls the others). This can control up to 8 Secondary PCs.

Installation

When you see a warning about using Multiplicity in a public network, set your network adapter as “Private” in the Windows settings.

During the installation you have to determine whether this PC is the Primary or a Secondary PC. For the Primary PC the test license has to be requested or you can enter or purchase a license here.

For a simple configuration it is better to install the Secondary PCs first.

Configuration

Primary

Directly after the installation you will be asked for the default mode, please select the “Seamless mode”, the “KVM mode” is not necessary with a video wall.

We consider to change the following default settings to be useful:

  • Settings
    • Disabled “Lock secondary computer when this computer is locked”
    • Control switching based on mouse movements…
      • Set “Always lock seamless switching” to avoid unwanted switching to another PC during normal operation.
    • On Screen indicators…
      • Enable “Show status window when controlling another computer”
  • Hotkeys
    • Set a hotkey for every Secondary PC. We recommend to use combinations with CTRL-ALT, because these are normally not occupied in the Windows system.
    • Enter a hotkey not only for every Secondary PC, but also for the Primary, for example CTRL-ALT-P. This makes it easier to return.

Secondary

  • Security
    • Disable “Allow this computer to send the screen contents to another computer (KVM mode)”
    • Disable “Allow a remote computer to unlock this computer when unlocking the primary”
