terra4d:runasservice

run Terra4D as Windows service

From version 3.1 Terra4D installer has the option to run the server as Windows service so it runs without User login.

The service is installed on a separate service user account 'Terra4D', so make sure there is no such user on the system before installation.

When updating Terra4D on such a system, make sure the services 'Terra4D' and 'Terra4Dlogging' are stopped.

Important notes on terra3d-setup:

  • because the service uses a different user account, any settings in terra3d-setup must be set in the 'system' Scope (select in upper right corner). Setting on Scopes Group/User will be ignored.
  • make sure all filesystem paths in 'General' and 'Advanced' tabs are NOT in a user path 'e.g. c:\Users\Administrator' because the service cannot access these directories.

Configure as service without installation program:

  • in terra3d-setup change on BOTH tabs 'Logging' and 'Server' the option 'Use service' to 'Use server service'
  • check the notes on terra3d-setup above
